It’s time to remember our days of
freaks and geeks, jocks and cheerleaders,
the artsy and the fartsy. They were the
times of passing notes in class, avoiding
Dr. Quelet in the halls, downing weird hamburgers
in the cafeteria, joking about the phallic
rocket by the breezeway, selling candy bars
between periods, engaging in fleeting crushes
and loves, cramming, writing, hypothesizing.
It was the year of the first Gulf War;
the year Mayor Marion Barry uttered: “The
bitch set me up”; of our first opportunity
to vote; of the reunification of Germany;
the year Nelson Mandela was freed after
27 years in prison; the year “Dances
with Wolves” won the Oscar for best
picture and Mariah Carey won the Grammy
for best new artist.
And, it has been 15 years since then. Come
join your chums from the Richard Montgomery
High School Class of 1990 and show off your
gray hairs and pictures of your kids.
